Canberra ACT Olympic Distance Championships

Swim Lake 1.5 km - 2 x 750 m loops

Bike - Flat 40 km - 4 x 10 km loops

Run - Flat 10 km - 2 x 5 km loops

Arrived on Friday afternoon to a very hot Capital 35.c and a solid westerly. I did my usual pre-race jog with fellow Project M athlete Rob Sheeley and to be honest my legs felt terrible. I have been in a big workload with Challange Wannaka Full fast approaching but had had a "lighter" week leading in.

With a few delays race morning we were finally under way. With no Pro/Open Category i was the 3rd wave of the day, knowing a few of the quicker guys were all together in the first wave i knew it was just going to be a solo TT for the day. I purposely positioned myself to the far right and with a bit of a gap between myself and the rest of my wave, hoping to get a good jump and not drag anyone with me,

I had a great swim reaching the first turn buoy solo and extended my lead during the first lap. It was very congested lap 2 as i started to catch the earlier waves.

I exited the swim with a 1 min 10 sec advantage. A long 400 m run to T1 and onto my strongest leg for the day. I rode the first 20 km solid and backed off the 2nd half as the wind and heat was picking up. in and out of T2 i was the virtual leader by just over a minute (not knowing this at the time) and settled into a good rhythm again being mindful i had some big km's in my legs and the current conditions. I crossed the line with a 36 min run for 10 km and 2nd overall. Very very happy with my final hit out before my debut Ironman on the 18th February.

Some great results from the Project M team, with a few being this there first Olympic and some more advanced athletes having a good crack

Results as below

Lastly just want to say a big congratulations to Project M team mate Jarrod Boyd being crowned Australian 25-29 Sprint champion last week with a cracking race in Robina QLD
